Just Me and My Dad

My favorite picture. It looks like he is looking at Steve with such
admiration and saying teach me dad.

This is his new funny face that he makes constantly.

Another weekend of treats. Saturday night I made Texas Style Cheese Fries, oh they are good, then I made Oreo Truffles. A new favorite. Steve made homemade ice cream and dipped Oreos in chocolate. We are so weak. On the up side we did buy some peaches, bananas, and apples. We are going to try dehydrating fruit for the first time. We are also going to try to dehydrate some meat and make sweet and sour jerky.

Unexpected Night Out

Some of our friends gave us an unexpected night out. It was great! They gave us tickets to the Living Planet Aquarium and dinner. We didn't make it to the aquarium before it closed so we'll go another time. We went to Chili's we tried two new things, Texas Cheese fries and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Molten Lava Cake. They were SO good just typing about them I want to go attempt my own versions of them. Thank you so much you guys! It was raining before we left so we bundled Conner up we thought he looked so cute in his jacket we had to take a picture.I finally got a picture where you can see Conner's two teeth. But because the picture is so small you really can't see them. He is very happy here because he just woke up from a 3 1/2 hour nap

Weekend Review

I was doing so well after Conner was born with my eating. It helped a lot having gestational diabetes because I had to be so careful with my eating. So after he was born I didn't crave the sweets or a lot of carbs even a little was too much. But I slowly have gone back to my old ways of eating and looking back at this weekend all I remember eating is junk. I gained 20 lbs while pregnant with Conner and a week and a half after I had him I had lost 28 lbs. I have since in the last couple of months gained about 6 pounds back. So I really need to dedicate myself and start working out. I have to break the barrier of, "I would rather take a nap than work out." I know I would be so much happier and have a lot more energy. Just do it! Anyway back to my weekend. We did do a few things between eating all the junk. Friday we dipped oreos in chocolate, as well as pretzels and then we drizzled caramel over the pretzels, and had a frozen pizza for dinner. Saturday morning we went fishing up at Silver Lake Flats. Our sister in law Amber went with us with her four kids. It was really cold and windy which made it a little challenging with Conner. Steve and the kids did catch 3 fish so that was great.
Steve and Conner fishing. After that we headed down to Springville to try some custard that Steve really liked. Then we got home and rested till it was time to go to the drive in. We invited our friends Hope and Brandon to come with us. We saw GI Joe and Transformers 2. I liked GI Joe. Anyway I was trying to be good and I brought watermelon and canteloupe to the movies. Hope was very thoughtful and brought each of us a snickers and popcorn. Needless to say I didn't eat the fruit. Maybe that 6 pounds has gone up to 8 after this weekend. Oh yeah today we made churros. I told Steve we need to throw away our vegetable oil. What healthy recipe calls for it?
Look how good he is getting at sitting up.

5 Month Birthday!

Steve teases me because I get so excited about each of his "birthdays." Well, tooth #3 is on its way. The bottom corner of the top tooth is just barely sticking out. Earlier today Conner had his back side up in the crawling position but the front of his body was completely flat. But that didn't stop him from scooting around. He is getting stronger with sitting up by himself. Each day he can do it a little longer. I feel so bad for him because now when Conner lays on a blanket with animals or designs on it he tries so hard to pick them up. He'll try over and over again. He doesn't get it, they are part of the blanket. So the other day I put a duck over one of the images so he could pick it up. The last couple of days he has been so much happier. I am pretty sure it is because I have been reading the children's Book of Mormon to him again. We finished it a few months ago and I never started it again so a few days I go I got back on top of it and it has made a difference, for both of us. I have learned so much from the children's version.
It's been really neat.
Last night I baby sat my sister's two little girls as well as a boy that she had to watch for the week. So I had a total of 4 kids for 9 hours. A big pat on the back for all the moms out there with more than one child. You are amazing! Here is Conner's five month picture.
I am sure that Steve will have something to say about the pink blanket. Hee hee hee.

New photos

This is my fifth post in a week and a day, I obviously need a project. I think Conner is finally feeling a little better he is napping a lot today. Two hours after he woke up he fell asleep again for 3 hours. Then he stayed awake for 2 more hours and slept again for an hour and a half. Once he woke up from that nap we tried a little photo shoot with some new pants he got from Kyle and Jenny. He is eating right now but he keeps falling asleep. Here are some of the pics. I was trying to make him look like one of the kids from the 20s or 30s with the hat and pants.

Tooth #2

Friday night Steve and I made dinner together. We didn't start cooking till about 10:45 at night so we didn't eat until 11:30 but it was way good. We made chicken marsala, and those cheddar biscuits from Red Lobster, we also had corn on the cob that had been picked that day. It was the best corn on the cob. Saturday night we went to my grandma's and grandpa's up in Woodland Hills to celebrate her 66th wedding anniversary as well as her 86th birthday. My grandpa will be 91 on October 31st but you would never know with how active he is. While we were there we noticed Conner cut his second tooth. So he now has his bottom two middle teeth that have come through. After their party we went and picked some corn. I didn't know that we were going to be doing that so I was in flip flops. The field had little canals type things every now and then between the rows of corn. But the field itself was quite muddy. I lost my flip flops so many times in the mud. By the time we were done I had mud up my legs, on my pants and my feet were so dirty. Then Steve and I decided to go see Harry Potter. Today we went up to North Ogden for a baby blessing, so it was quite a busy weekend. This weekend I also learned some very valuable lessons that I can hopefully work on every day of my life. I am so excited because if I can work on these things everyday they will hopefully make me such a better person. Especially a better wife and mom. Wish me luck. Steve's brother gave us a bunch of hand me downs for Conner. Look how cute these shoes are! I got some dang cute clothes as well. Thanks Kyle and Jenny!

Teething Survival Kit

Last night we purchased, baby orajel, baby ibuprofen, and chill rings. He didn't seem to care about the chill rings. Items in the survival kit, the blue ball sucker thing for his endless runny nose, tissues, the baby ibuprofen helped a lot more than the Tylenol and remembering to sing Primary songs softly and out loud so your voice doesn't sound tense and it helps relax the baby. A lot of love and patience, a life saver which is generally a spouse, for those moments where you just need a breather and one of the best things to add in a teething survival kit is:
EAR PLUGS!
They help you from getting a headache when trying to comfort your child. I seriously wear these during Conner's tough times.
I have the Jungle Book on so I have some noise during the day. I looked over while I was typing and Conner was actually watching it.
My Little Jumping Jack

My mom used this jumper for all of her kids. Conner has a blast in it. He has been in it for about half an hour.

When Steve is at work he lifts hundreds of pounds throughout the day installing garage doors. He leaves for work around seven and gets home around six. So when he gets home he is very tired. Last night he didn't get home till nine because he was helping his brother in his backyard after work. But Steve gave me a nice surprise. He asked if I wanted to play a game I said sure so I got out Sorry and set it up on our bed. First Steve had to take a shower. So I am laying in bed waiting to play and all of a sudden I hear the tub being scrubbed, later he walks out with the garbage. I got up the next morning and he had scrubbed our whole bathroom, he even washed the baseboards and did the laundry. Thanks babe! I really appreciate it.

Tonight I went and saw The Proposal with my sister and some other girls. It was cute. I laughed out loud in quite a few parts.

Teething Is The Pits

Conner is such an incredible child. When he does cry it is only for a minute because he is hungry or he'll cry for up to five minutes if he is really tired and we first lay him down in his crib. When he cried on Saturday and we first noticed he had cut a tooth we hadn't heard him cry that long or that hard before. Poor thing. Today he had a rough day. He woke up from a nap crying and I couldn't soothe him, so I gave him teething tablets as well as Tylenol. He cried for almost half an hour. It wasn't really loud but you could tell he was in so much pain. Then it happened again tonight. Conner doesn't take a pacifier he just spits them out but we had an idea. We gathered up his pacifiers and put water down inside the nipple and then put them in the freezer. Then we would let Conner suck on them it seemed to help for a little while, we just had to hold the pacifier in his mouth. Here is a video of Steve helping Conner to calm down from the pain. He did a very good job.
After we got Conner bathed and fed we put him to bed. Lately he has been sleeping about 10 hours straight. So I was very surprised to hear a loud cry come from his room about 45 minutes after he went to sleep. I picked him up brought him downstairs and laid him in his swing. He fell right to sleep again. I have one question how in the world is this comfortable? Before I could publish this post Conner woke up again. Steve is helping him. His crying is worse now. Poor little guy. He has such a runny nose on top of it. It completly breaks my heart I wish I could help with the pain more. I think it'll be a long night.

24th of July (Picture Overload!)

Wednesday night Steve and I were trying to decide what to do for the weekend of the 24th because Steve had that Friday off; I thought about Yellowstone. So I found a hotel that was available. On Thursday we decided we would go and Friday morning at 6:30 am we left, right after I got peed on by Conner. It was such a nice trip, very laid back. This was the first trip that Steve and I had gone on with just ourselves. I loved it. We headed up through Idaho and stopped at Bear World. It was so neat! Conner was such an incredible traveler. Here are some pics of us at Bear World.

The bear cubs were SO cute you just wanted to cuddle with them.

You drive through this park where the Black bears roam free but the Grizzly bears have to stay behind some wires. You have to keep your windows up.

They even had buffalo roaming free.

Look at this giant elk!

They even had a petting zoo.

Now we reach Yellowstone. After we arrived at our hotel I almost immediately wished we had chosen to stay somewhere else. Oh well Steve had fun with my germaphobia. He pinned me down to the bed and rubbed one of the pillows over my face. Some of the sites were way pretty. The best part was just being together as a family without any interruptions. We forgot our CDs which actually turned out to be nice. It was such a long car ride and we couldn't get any radio reception so we came up with some fun and interesting topics to talk about. Steve mentioned how mosquito's live a dangerous life. Any time they try to eat they have the possibility of being killed. While we were in Yellowstone I ran into one of my good friends, Amberley, it was crazy running into her. Here are the pics from Yellowstone.

There is a buffalo to the left of us in the background.

Playing at the hotel.

Old Faithful

I can't remember the name. But I think it is way pretty.

Steve and Conner playing after we had dinner.

Conner turned into a daddy's boy this weekend. It was great for him to get a closer connection with Steve.

These two pictures were taken the day before we left for our trip. His hat's are still too big.

Conner has now been in five states. Tennessee, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Utah!
Guess what! On our way home on Saturday Conner woke up from a nap and was really fussy then he started crying I reached back and put my finger in his mouth to see if I could soothe him. As soon as I put my finger in his mouth a felt something sharp. It was a tooth. Conner cut his first tooth! We got home Saturday night a little after 1 a.m. I love my family so much. I am so grateful to have Steve and Conner in my life.

A Few Of My Favorite Things (Another long one)

Thursday the 16th
I drink soda once sometimes twice a month. I usually choose water. Well Steve offered my a glass of soda tonight around 10:30 it sounded good so I drank the whole glass. Around midnight Steve woke up for a second and I asked him if that had caffeine in it. He said that he thought so. I just looked at him and said I am still wide awake. So I entertained myself with spider solitaire and Harry Potter until a little after one a.m. Then I decided to try to fall asleep. I laid in bed for 15-20 minutes and my mind won't slow down it is now 1:50 am. I am so not going to be liking life at 6:00 when Conner starts his day. Babies know how to do it. Early to bed and early to rise, and eat slow. Anyway back to my topic title. In my kitchen I have a vinyl saying on the wall that says, "Life's two best comforts: Good food and a hug." Seriously is there anything better when you are down then some take out and hug from your husband? I don't think so but here are a few more things that'll put a smile on my face. I think it is so neat to see a bird that has it's wings spread out and isn't moving but staying in the exact same place in the air. Two words, flip flops! When Steve paints my toenails. Watching Conner yawn, it's so cute. When Conner is laying on his stomach and I lay next to him on the floor and he looks up at me and gets the biggest smile. Here is one of my favorites, a cold pillowcase and cold sheets in the morning when you get to sleep in. Getting new children's books. Hearing Conner laugh. Sunsets. Autumn leaves and a cool breeze. Staying home and cuddling up on a rainy day. Steve, Conner and me just being together. I am sure I could think of a ton more but I should probably get to bed. It's a little after two. Oh yeah, we had another family come and look at our house Wednesday night. Cross your fingers.

Friday the 17th
Our friends Hope and Brandon invited us to the Oquirrah Temple open house for Friday. I almost don't like open houses after going to that one last night. It is hard to be inside the temple when it is so loud, and when we walked up staircases the walls had so many scuff marks the whole way. And the feeling is just so different since it hasn't been dedicated. It is a beautiful temple. It has glass walls on the inside. I haven't seen a temple like that before. Afterwards we went to Famous Dave's for dinner. Steve and I had never been there. I am not a huge cornbread fan but that was the best cornbread I have ever eaten. It was really good. When I got home I went out to feed Copper and saw a frog on our back patio. Of course I had to take a picture. I was surprised how clear it turned out. I was so nervous it was going to jump on me. It was a little guy even though he looks big in the picture.

Weekend Review

Thursday afternoon I went into the kitchen to get my phone to call my sister. I left Conner on the floor on his back. I was on the phone for only a couple of minutes and then I walked back in the family room. I started yelling while on the phone with my sister, "he rolled over, he rolled over." Conner was now on his stomach. I know it sounds silly but I almost started to cry I was so disappointed that I had missed my sons first mile stone. He did such a great thing and know one was there to watch him. So I felt like I let my son down again. If anyone read my blog a couple of weeks ago Conner did a back flip off my bed and landed on his stomach, yeah I deserve a blue ribbon. Anyway I carried my camera around with me the rest of the day on Thursday waiting for him to roll over again from his back to his stomach but he never did. But I was able to see him roll over today from his back to his stomach twice. Steve hasn't seen him do this he has been busy helping his brother with his yard. Tonight he is even sleeping over there because the cement is coming at 6:30 am and they didn't finish working till late tonight. So I treated myself to McDonald's and I rented a movie from RedBox. I watched New In Town. It was cute, kind of had a lot of swearing for a PG movie.
Friday night went fine with Conner he did wake up at 4:00 am because he rolled over and woke himself up. Saturday morning my mom and I went shopping. I had a store credit at Kohl's. I ended up getting a new pair of pants, a pair of short capri things, a shirt and an outfit for Conner. Most of it was all on their clearance racks. Then I went to Old Navy and bought two pairs of flip flops, brown and turquoise. Flip flops will definitely put a smile on my face. That and newly painted toe nails. Saturday night we went on a family date. It was so fun and rejuvenating being together as a family. We went to Texas Road House where we happened to see Dustin Thacker and his new wife. Conner did really well at the restaurant. Then we went to Wal-Mart, which is one of my favorite stores. I got a rolling pin and a new cutting board! I was so excited. New flip flops, a rolling pin and a cutting board. You wouldn't think that it could get any better but it did. I have mentioned a few times how one of my favorite things is to read to Conner; well I got 3 new books for him as well!! Green Eggs and Ham, Are You My Mother and Brown Bear Brown Bear. I read them to him this morning when he woke up. He did a new cute thing while I was reading. He looked at my mouth reached up his hand and put it in my mouth. He did this three times, I started to laugh.

Steve tried to make Conner look like a brown bear.
Sunday afternoon we laid out on a blanket in the backyard. To keep Conner cool we sprayed him with a spray bottle. He is doing this new funny thing where he sucks his top lip in. He'll do this while we are driving or whenever. Pretty funny.

Sunday night we went to my sister Debbie's house and had dinner and a game night. Guess what we had for dinner. BBQ nachos.

Latest and Greatest

Conner had his four month appointment on Tuesday and everything is looking great. He weighed 14.7 lbs which puts him in the 43rd percentile and he is 25 1/4" long and that puts him in the 64th percentile. The last couple of weeks Conner just hasn't been himself. He isn't talking as much or smiling as much either; I have really missed it. He has had a cold the last week and a half so his coughing would wake him up in the night and during the day he hasn't been getting any long naps. Well, last night we fed him cereal with a spoon for the first time. He had no idea what to do with it. We would put the food in his mouth and he would stick his tongue out a little as if he was getting ready to suck on the bottle. He pushed out a ton of the food but he did get some of it down. He ate at about 6:15 last night. Then we played with him and I gave him a bath and he was asleep by 8:30. He didn't wake up until 6:15 am. HE WENT 12 HOURS BETWEEN FEEDINGS AND DIDN'T WAKE UP ONCE IN THE NIGHT!!! I fell asleep around 10:45 and slept until 6:15, so why am I still tired? This morning I got my Conner back. He has been talking up a storm and smiling. After he woke up I fed him and then laid him on a blanket downstairs. I came back upstairs to lay by Steve for a couple more minutes. I could hear him talking from all the way downstairs, it was great. Here is our video of Conner's first time eating cereal with a spoon.

It's funny when I feed him with the bottle. As I get near his mouth with it he opens his mouth really big and then it is a race to see what is going to get inside his mouth first, the bottle or his fist. On the right I've started putting a picture of him from each of his birthdays. He only changed from the first to the second photo and now he looks the same every month.

Let Freedom Ring

For our 4th of July weekend we went camping. We left Thursday night and got home Saturday night. It was really nice; great weather. Conner had a little bit of a hard time keeping cool during the hotter hours of the day. We tried a few different things to help him out. We would get him completely naked and then get one of his blankets wet and then wrap him up in that. We also just let him be naked and sit on our laps. My mom got peed on quite a few times but it helped the heat rash to go away. The last thing that we did was empty out one of our totes and filled it up with water to give him a little bath. He seemed to enjoy that.
We took Steve's uncle's horses with us, and a couple 4-wheelers. My parents also joined us for the weekend, it was really nice. Steve and I hadn't gone on a horse ride in such a long time. The next day my back hurt so bad; I guess from bouncing so much. On Friday Lance, Amber and their kids joined us for part of the day and on Saturday Steve's parents as well as his sister Becca joined us for the day. Our dog Copper seemed to really enjoy it as well.

Camping is the only time Copper gets human food. Even then it's only if we have leftovers. But he loves it!

Steve and my dad on Uncle Mike's horses.

Conner staying in the shade, holding the umbrella.

Conner after his bath.

My sweet boys.

Rice cereal is the best thing ever!!! Last week I got a little antsy and started Conner a week early with rice cereal. I guess you are suppose to wait until they are 4 months. Anyway, Conner goes to bed at 8 o'clock and at about 10 o'clock we wake him up to eat rice cereal in his bottle of formula. He doesn't actually wake up all the way his eyes don't usually open and once he is done eating he sleeps until 6 o'clock. Hallelujah. Last night we put him down a little late, he ate his rice cereal and went to sleep around nine and slept until 5:45. Some people really get sad seeing their baby get big but I love it. Conner found his feet last week. It is so cute when he is laying on his back and he grabs his feet and brings them up to his face.

Another exciting thing happened this week, someone came to look at our house! I don't even mind if they don't put an offer in, I'm just glad we had someone look at it so quickly.

I still don't know what is up with my blog. When I used to post a picture the actual picture showed up where I was typing now it is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo. And it isn't letting me center my text. Does anyone else have the same problem?
